Students must possess a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Junior License prior to applying for the course.
*New York State requires a minimum of 24 hours of lecture (not including exams) and 24 hours of in-car observation and instruction. If the student’s schedule has the potential for a significant conflict, s/he should not take the class at this time. There will be 25-26 hours of actual lecture time, inclusive of exams.
*A set lecture and car time will be assigned and must be adhered to.
*NO ABSENCES ARE ALLOWED!! Any missed classes must be made up prior to the Final Exam. A maximum of 3 make-ups for lecture absence are allowed. Upon a fourth (4th) absence, the student will be removed from the program without a refund. A MAX of 1 missed car class can be made up. More than 1 missed car class may incur an additional fee.
*Completion of all assignments, including homework, midterm exam, and final exam, are requirements for passing the lecture part of the course.
*Parents should attend the brief Orientation Meeting (online) to ensure understanding of the State rules and requirements.
*Separate grades will be given for lecture and in-car portion. A minimum of a 70% average in EACH of the classes must be maintained to successfully complete each portion of the course. Lindenhurst School District will assign a grade for the car portion of the course, based upon the driving school’s input.
*The MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion will only be issued if both parts of the course are successfully completed.
*Students must comply with the LHS Code of Conduct. Any behavior during regular school or Driver’s Education which results in disciplinary action taken by the school may result in the student being removed from the Driver’s Ed program without a refund.
*Students must obey New York State vehicle and traffic laws at all times. Failure to comply with the law may result in the student being removed from the program with no refund.
*In the event the driver’s education program is rendered impossible or delayed by events beyond the control of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District (“District”), including, but not limited to war, social unrest, acts of God, public health emergency, epidemic, pandemic, or regulations or restrictions imposed by any government or governmental agency, the District shall not be responsible in any way to provide parents and/or students any refunds of the costs of the driver’s education program.
